Dog Fouling and Dog Litter Bins

Dog Litter Bins are provided by the Parish, District and County Council at various locations around Enderby

If the Parish Council staff witness any dog fouling we always pass the details on to Blaby District Council who are able to issue fines.

Anyone who witnesses an incident of dog fouling, and the mess being blatantly ignored, can report the matter to Blaby District Council, the authority responsible for the legislation and for cleaning up the excrement. If you do not know the identity of the culprit, or are unwilling to make a witness statement, you can still provide information such as time of the offense and descriptions of the dog and its owner. This will assist the Dog Wardens with their investigations.

What Can You Use to Clean Up After Your Dog?

'Poop scoops' are available from Enderby Parish Council Offices, Blaby District Council and Enderby Library. and there are many commercial 'poop scoops' available from pet shops. However, a plastic bag, eg, a supermarket carrier or nappy disposal bag used in conjunction with something absorbent such as kitchen towel or newspaper will do the job admirably at virtually no cost.

Enderby Parish Council reminds members of the public that dogs are not permitted inside any fenced or unfenced children's play areas on Enderby's Parks, and should be left outside.

Health Warning regarding dog fouling

Not only is this anti-social habit offensive, the disease toxocariasis, a threat to public health, may be picked up from dog excrement.

Toxocariasis is an infection of the roundworm toxocara canis. The eggs of the parasite can be found in soil or sand contaminated with faeces and if swallowed, result in infection that lasts between six and 24 months.

Symptoms include eye disorders, vague ache, dizziness, nausea, asthma and, in extremely rare cases, seizures/fits.

Often the eggs are ingested when passed to the mouth by the hands, but this can also occur through contact with dogs or other inanimate objects including balls, the wheels of toys and the soles of shoes.

Infected soil samples are often found in play areas and as a result, Toxocariasis most commonly affects children between 18 months and five years.

You MUST Clean Up After Your Dog

Under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, it is an offence if anyone in charge of a dog, whether it belongs to them or not, fails to remove the dogs faeces should it foul in any public area within the District of Blaby. This includes parks, footpaths and also private land where public are permitted to have access.

Anyone seen committing an offence under the above Act will be offered the opportunity to accept a fixed penalty notice and pay a fine to discharge liability for the offence. Refusal of the fixed penalty notice or failure to pay the fine will result in legal action.
